A huge Thank You to the Coriell Institute for Medical Research for pledging a donation of $500 to the teams!
Coriell's support will ensure that the teams are able to acquire the needed equipment and supplies as we begin this competition year.
The Coriell Institute for Medical Research is an independent, non-profit biomedical research center based in Camden, New Jersey. Founded in 1953, the Institute is dedicated to unlocking the genetic code of human disease.
Coriell is a pioneer in genomics, and is examining the utility of genetic information in clinical care through the Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative® (CPMC®) research study (www.cpmc.coriell.org). The research study seeks to initially enroll 10,000 participants to build a cohort with rich genotypic and phenotypic data with which to discover genetic variation that affects drug toxicity and efficacy, as well as to discover presently unknown gene variants that elevate a person’s risk of complex diseases. One of the many unique facets of the CPMC research study is its collaborative design, which brings together volunteer study participants, medical professionals, scientists, ethicists, genetic counselors, pharmacists, information technologists, and hospital partners. The CPMC study provides an ideal environment in which to advance the implementation of personalized medicine.
Coriell is also exploring the promise of induced pluripotent stem cells – stem cells created from skin or blood – and their role in disease research and drug discovery. Additionally, Coriell continues to be recognized as the world’s leading biobank, distributing biological samples, and offering custom research and biobanking services to scientists around the globe.
