What the Team is up to...

FIRST Lego League's Impact

Here is a story where a public radio station followed an FLL team through judging at the Razorback Invitational, which is an international level FLL tournament.  The story provides a great perspective of what going through the FLL process can do for kids.  The interview of the kids by the news woman is the best.

When you get  chance, thank your kid's coaches and let them know that their efforts are valued.  The kids that they guide through this process are really benefiting from their volunteer efforts.  A big Thank you goes out to all that step up to help out.

What a great 2017/2018 season!

posted Mar 27, 2018, 5:56 AM by c s

In early March, our 2017/2018 season came to a close.  It was a GREAT year overall with many accomplishments.  This was the first year that we opened FLL Jr to full registration, and 11 teams signed up!  By all measures, it was an overwhelming success with more than 60 kids, some as young as 6 years old, embracing STEM education.  We thank the 22 parent coaches who made that happen.  Our FLL showing was strong as well.  We hosted 8 teams, 18 coaches, and more than 60 children.  25% of these teams also went on to the finals at Rowan University and performed really well.  In total, 130+ kids across FLL and FLL Jr had hands on experiences with STEM, LEGOs and Fun!

We will be having our second parents and prospective coaches meeting Tuesday, June 13th at the Recreation Center (3rd floor) at Third and Church Streets from 7-8pm.  Children are welcome to come but this session will be geared towards the parents.  This will be a duplicate of our first meeting.

We will be covering the following:
What is Moorestown Robotics?
What is F.I.R.S.T.?
What is FLL?
What is FLL Jr?
The need for coaches.

FLL and FLL Jr Registration for kids will open June 11th on our website, moorestownrobotics.com, and close June 30th.  The only way to ensure that your child will be on a team is to coach.  We will explain this further at our information session June 13th.  You can sign up to be an FLL or FLL Jr coach on our website at the Coach's Signup link.

We expect FLL JR spots to be in EXTREMELY HIGH demand.  If you desire for your child to be on a team, the way to guarantee a spot is to sign up to coach.  Find out the details at the info session, or quickly reach out via the Contact link on the website and we will put someone in touch with you.

2016 Animal Allies - a successful season all around!

posted Jun 7, 2017, 6:18 AM by c s

This past season, Moorestown Robotics hosted a record 14 FLL teams and trialed 2 FLL Jr teams!  It was a blast!  We worked with the Combustible Lemons FRC team to organize the first ever Moorestown FLL Qualifier and FLL Jr Expo.  Three FLL teams from the club advanced to the Championships at Rowan University where 2 teams received awards.  One team, the RoboLearners, took the first place Champions Award and chose to continue their competition at the World level in Aarhus Denmark.  There they were only one of 6 teams from the US, competing against over a hundred other teams from 50 countries!

Everyone looks forward to next season!

Moorestown Robotics Parents Info and Registration Session June 13th

posted May 24, 2016, 6:11 AM by c s   [ updated May 24, 2016, 6:12 AM ]

Moorestown Robotics will offer a parent/potential-coach info session.  The session will be held at the Moorestown Recreation Center on Monday June 13th from 7-8pm. There you can find out what FLL is all about, if it is a fit for your child, and what it takes to be a coach.

The number of open spots for students is based on how many coaches volunteer.  The only way to ensure your child can be on a team is to coach.  Last year, a majority of student applicants had to be turned away given the need for more adult volunteers.  Coaches DO NOT need to have any background in engineering or programming and are paired with another coach.

FLL robotic offers a dynamic and fun educational experience for our kids, but more coaches are needed to accommodate our growing list of interested participants. Parents who like to work with kids and want to take part in this amazing opportunity are invited to complete the online form http://www.moorestownrobotics.com/home/coach-s-signup and join the information session.

Registration for students will open at the meeting on June 13th. All students must be between 9 and 14 years old. Limited spots will be available and priority will be given to children of coaches.

FTC Signups Are Open Through June 9th!

posted May 24, 2016, 6:07 AM by c s   [ updated May 24, 2016, 6:13 AM ]

Moorestown Robotics is growing.

In addition to supporting FLL teams, we are stepping up to FTC.  FTC, or FIRST Tech Challenge (http://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/ftc ), is for ages 13-18 and is the next step up from FLL. This year, the immediate plan is to support one team of 10 kids.  Therefore we have VERY limited seats.  Registration deadline is Thursday June 9th.  Cost per person will be $400.

To gauge every child's interest and commitment, we will have a 5-10 minute interview and preference would be given to high schoolers who have some programming background.  The interviews will be on Sat and Sun June 11th and June 12th.  (times to be announced).  You will have to pick one of those dates while signing up on our website here by clicking here.

Though the official FTC season kicks-off in September, with the tournaments in November-December, we intend to start the program in late June and continue over the summer.  This will help the children get comfortable with the FTC framework, programming environment and the robot construction set.

Remember, commitment through the season will be at least 4-6 hours a week, but may be more near competitions.

If we can get more coaches, we can consider additional teams.  If you are interested in being a coach for the FTC, please go to our website or click here: http://www.moorestownrobotics.com/home/coach-s-signup

We can only offer these programs with active support from parents.  Please consider coaching so that these program can be there for your children and others in years to come.

For those looking for FLL signups, we will begin that process after the June 13th information session. Please watch for news about that meeting.
